Finding the Perfect Floor Plan

Whilst there are many digital tools available to help you experiment with different interior layouts before you move, renovate, build or even just purchase new furniture or rugs.

I think the tried and trusted old fashioned method of working with a pencil, ruler, paper and scissors can often be the best approach.

Make a copy of the floor plan of the room you're working on, if you don’t have plans measure the room from corner to corner and do a rough sketch of the room using a scale of 1:100.  Mark in doors and windows too.

The scale of 1:100 is the most common scale used by architects and interior designers.  The scale 1:100 means that 1 centimetre on paper represents 1 metre of real space.

Using the same scale, cut out paper furniture shapes of the furniture you will be using and label them. These can be easily moved around the floor plan to try out different layouts and give you an idea of the best way to lay things out.

Have fun.
